Blue apatite is part of the apatite group.  Blue apatite is found mostly in Russia, Brazil, and Madagascar.  Apatite can be blue, green, yellow, brown, and gray amongst other colors but the most common for crystal collectors are blue and green.  It is an igenous rock and is phosphate based.  It has a mohs hardness of 5.  Apatite is fluorescent under UV light.  Apatite is one of the few minerals also produced biologically and can be found in tooth enamel and bone mineral.  Fluorapatite is used to fluoridate water to help prevent dental carries.  Fission tracks in apatite can be used to track thermal histories in sedimentary basins.

The name apatite derives from the Greek word "apatao" meaning to deceive as the German mineralogist identifying the stone found it was easy to mistake it for other minerals.  Apatite has been used historically to honor Gaia, the Greek Earth Mother Goddess. 

Metaphysically apatite has been used to promote manifestation, increases clarity and wisdom, and increases creativity.  Meditating with blue apatite can increase spiritual connection and help access inner wisdom.   It has also been used to help clear confusion, apathy, and negativity.  Apatite promotes humanitarian outlooks.
