Green Jade with Pyrite Sphere
Green Jade with Pyrite Sphere
Jade is a common term for two minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Nephrite is typically white or green and jadeite is often white or green but can also be lavender, yellow, orange, brown, and black. The traditional Chinese name is Fei Cui. The english word jade comes from the Spanish words piedra de ijada which translates to loin stone for its reputed efficacy in curing illness of the loins and kidneys. It is a 6-7 on the Mohs scale.
In Neolithic times it was used by the Chinese for ceremonies and burial pieces. It is considered an imperial gem. Nephrite was mined first in China and jadeite was imported in when mines began to dwindle. Nephrite is considered a symbol of Chinese noblemen. It is also culturally significant in Japanese and Korean cultures.
Jade can be used to increase confidence, boost acceptance, improve general health, and resolve emotional or spiritual issues.
